we like to play "beat the code".

The Building Code says nail the
floors to the joists. Marshall Homes code says glue them to
the joists. Then nail them. Them fasten them even tighter with
screws. No squeaks or creaks allowed.
The Building code also says floor joists will be 16” on
center. The Marshall Homes code says that’s not good enough
under heavier tile floors, so we make them 12” on center.
No creaks or cracks allowed there, either.
